Team had a good showing, Rich, Dennis, Brian, Ron and I. Jose and Justin were to show up too, but Jose was out with a bad hip and Justin overslept.
So the 5 us made a plan and off we went. The first lap was good, we controlled O’Neal who likes to shoot off the front of these road races from mile zero for an attempted 48 mile TT. It has worked in the past so we made sure this time it would not. All his attempts were covered.
Most of the first lap was much the same, a few break attempts but all were brought back. Near the half way point of the second lap one guy got off the front, I decided to bridged up and we began to see what we could do. We started 30 second rotations, stayed away a bit and I think began to make some ground. We made our way around turn two now with a tail wind moving along well then O’Neal decides to bridge up and join us. At least I thought so, turns out he decide to just sit there and not help. The guy is a good rider and could have helped us grow the gap we had and might have been the winning break. We were just about to hit the rollers which I think would have been to our advantage. But it was not and we were caught. The race finished in one large big pack sprinting up the final hill. I had some cramps so my sprint was poor, ended up 24th or so out of 44.
Overall pleased with the effort, downloaded the power file and was pleased with that too.
Most of the Dogfish team was beat up after the crashes from Sat and Sun. Hope all you guys heal up quick.

Fango - there is just somthing about them...

Having the Challenge Fango tubies on my carbon wheels, which I can hardly remember what they feel like as I only use them for cross races and some training, I wanted to make sure I was running the same tire on my training wheels which are clinchers. So the other day the Fango clinchers arrived. There is something about these tires that are different then the clinchers I've used in the past, mostly Maxxis and Kenda which I’ve been training on all year. I do a lot of cross bike miles on the Katy Trail in the early am.
The rubber seems different, (texture and feel), the smell is different and they ride great. I would say better but not sure of that due to them being new to me. Your mind can play tricks on you when you have a new product in hand.
Doing some searching I found this……

Beat by the Heat (Spanish Lake MTB Race)
98 degrees and sunny made for one hot tamale. Based on the last few races it was going to be a battle between Rock, Mark and I. Rock took off with me on his wheel followed by Mark. Rock and I got a gap on the field after one lap with Mark still within sight.
Lap two started I began to feel the heat, half way into lap 2 the heat was winning, soon after I lost all power, lost the wheel of Rock, Mark caught, passed and I was left riding like a first timer.
Coming into the race I was looking to hit the podium, but today I was left with no legs and even less motivation to try and recover. So I packed it up and called it a day. Good job to all that played the heat right and made a good day of it.
That's the last MWFT series race for me this year. They were a ton of fun, I look forward to more next year. The question will be 35+ expert or expert open? Looking at past races, both category winners this year blow my lap times away, but I'm hoping it will help push me to ride faster.
After completing a full week off the bike last week I'm ready for some big hours this month. Aug is base/threshold month that will have me riding 13 hours a week for the next 3 weeks followed by a rest week. Then, it's two week reaming before the real season starts!

MO State Crit
State crit on Sunday was a good one. Up first was the masters 30/35+ race. Good hard race with team mate Mark Nagy breaking away with a few others. He ended up the winner! Ended up playing the role of team member doing what I could to help Mark stay away. Lots of good efforts during the race produced some good power numbers.
Sunday was the end of a 5 week high intensity block, legs did not have enough in the tank to finish the 2nd race of the day in the Cat 3 race. Up next, 6 days off the bike for a good long rest followed by Spanish lake MTB race on Sunday.
Cross is O' so close!
Good to spend the day with Dawndi. AKA Dawndi Cam.
