Route 66 Duathlon (Team)

Dawndi and I have been talking about competing in a team duathlon for the past month. We made the decision early this week to give Rolla Route 66 Duathlon, 5k run/ 19 mile bike, event a go, Dawndi as the runner and me on the bike.

We calculated what we thougth would be our times, matched them up to previous results and concluded we had a good chance of placing in the top 3.

Dawndi headed off first with a 26 min time in mind. She ran like the wind with a time of 25:58. Had she done the 5K alone, her time was good enough for 9th overall and first in her age group. Under 26 min was a great start and we were right on track.

Dawndi tagged me and off I went. My target was 21 mph over what was advertised as a hilly course. Had some hills but not enough to keep the average that low. I was able to push the average to 22.8 for this 19 mile bike leg.

Total time for us was 1 hour 13 min. Good enough for 2nd place in the team competition out of 6 and 5th overall. Looking over past results our time was the 2nd best team time in the 7 year history of this event. Best time was posted by this years winner with a time of 1 hour 11 min.

Fog was heavy today, stayed around for most of the morning.

Showing off our 2nd place ribbons.

We were two happy campers at the end of this event!

We will defiantly be doing this event again next year and another before the year is over. I recommend all couples doing this, what a great way to spend the day with the one you love.
