Froze Toes is in the books. Lots of folks came out today to enjoy the blue skies, 40 degree temps and nasty wind. Felt like I was back in Iowa.
I rolled out at noon with the Pro/1/2/3 group for what was to be 62 miles of pure fun.
With a tail wind to start, things got moving fast with things splitting up even faster. After 8 miles I was off the back working in smaller groups. I settled into what would be a group 4 that changed several times during the day. We would loose one guy while picking up another along the way. I fell off at one point only to work my way back to the group.
The wind made for a tough day, in my group we all had thoughts of calling it a day after one lap (32 miles). And sure enough after battling a horrid head wind for what seemed like forever we made the turn for the last three miles and called it a day. It would have been pure torture to try it alone for another 32 miles. I may still be out there.
Even though I did not get the intended miles in I wanted I'm pleased with the overall effort. I'm in a good place for this time of year.
Next week will be this race, should be a blast!
Jeff-
ReplyDeleteNice work today. The weather was pretty much crappy, but at least it wasn't as bad as last weekend! My race only had 4 people in it...made for a very cold and windy ride. I don't think I could have done 62 miles...I was dead after 20 haha. See ya!!
Sorry to hear that the wind was so bad. That certainly happens this time of year. We had 30 degrees, no wind, but still some ice on the roads - I road indoors. I wish I could have riden with you.
