Best way to tell you about today was it was one hard race, hardest cross race I have ever competed in. Through in a snow and iced packed 4 hour drive to KC today and you have an epic adventure. I did not see any STL racers today other then Kurt from Action Images. The roads must have been too much.
First, Dawndi and I took off at 7:45am. I had planned on racing the cat 4 race at 10am then the cat 3/4 race at 1pm, the weather had other plans delaying us getting there in time. I was only able to make the 1pm race.
About 30 to 35 took toed up with temps just above freezing. The course was muddy, icy and snow packed. O' yes, there were some spots like the paved section that were dry., :) Took all your skills to make it around this very long course quickly. Each lap was about 10 min long.
I tried to stick with the lead pack right from the start. Unfortunately this did not last very long, they were lighting fast. I fell off quick loosing ground even faster.
Last I counted I was in about 15th place trying to hold on hopefully gain a few. Just the opposite happed, I ended up loosing a few more spots settling into 20 to 25th for the day.
I have a lot of work to do in order to get as fast as these guys but feel good about just being here today.
Sunday Dawndi and I get to the course for a 9am Cat ¾ UCI race at the same place. This time I think I will try and start out mid pack then see what happens. Check for an update late Sunday.
Dawndi Cam was out today, here are a few shots.
Thanks for reading..... till next time.......
good report and racing. I hope the earlier start tomorrow makes for better racing. Don't start too far off the middle of the group. You don't want to be racing with the hosers. You've had a great season and we look forward to even more for next year.
